PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Officials with Emera Maine say high winds and wind gusts caused by thunderstorms on Friday, June 29, have resulted in loss of electricity to more than 1,300 Aroostook County homes.

In a press release Friday afternoon, Emera spokesperson Judy Long said 1,343 customers in Caribou and nearby communities experienced power outages after thunderstorms with strong winds moved through the area on Friday afternoon. Crews are working to safely restore service by 4 p.m., she said.

Long reminded the public never to touch a downed power line or a tree in contact with a downed line. “If you see a line down, move away from the area and call local authorities and Emera Maine so crews can safely make repairs,” she said.
