Pet Talk – week of July 4, 2018

I was just looking over our newsletter. Lots of facts, message from the board, pics of adoptable pets and dates to remember. You can look for our newsletters at various businesses around Houlton.

You can also swing by the shelter to pick one up. By the time you read this our midnight madness activity and our fun fur a day will be over. We appreciate all those who stopped by to see us. We love to have people stop by at our events and fundraisers.

We are collecting bottles and cans right now. Thank you to Monticello Redemption for bringing their trailer up for people to drop off bottles There will also be a yard sale coming up. Stay tuned, our yard sales are awesome! FA Peabody is doing their patriotic photo contest. When you enter your pet you can specify Houlton Humane and it helps us raise funds. Go to their website to see all the adorable pets and be sure to vote!

Some of the projects we are working on right now are a possible pet cemetary for those living in apartments to have a place to bury their beloved pet; a possible dog park for all to use; and a recreational area for dogs in our care who need to “ burn off some steam,” away from public.

Shelter life can be stressful and we need an area away from the public for dogs who are not ready for adoption. We are always looking for ideas, if you have an idea for a fundraiser or are willing to help us by hosting one we welcome all feedback and help. We would love to have a few more board members as well.

Please watch your pets carefully during this holiday week. The fireworks and thunderstorms can be scary for all pets and many pets get lost during this week. They hear the noise and run. These events can bring on severe anxiety in some dogs. Please consult your veterinarian for advice.

Our spay, neuter clinics are very popular. We are hosting them often and they are a great way to prevent unwanted kittens. Please contact the shelter to put your name on our lists. You may qualify for a low cost spay or neuter. Ask C.J. or Courtney about this.

We are so grateful to Conway Humane Society for doing all they do for us. In addition to taking care of your cats they also do shelter cats. This is a huge savings for us, allowing our money to go further.

Check out our Facebook page. Lots of info there. Pictures of lost pets, adoptables, alumni pics, Thank yous for helping, our wish lists, etc. Like our page to get info of events, Etc.

Enjoy your holiday week and enjoy your furkids! If you need a furkid to spoil come on out to shelter and check our adoptables out. You may find your best friend. I know I did. Our chocolate lab Tucker was HHS alumni and the best dog we’ve ever had. He was sweet and very well mannered. He passed away in December and we are grateful to Houlton Humane for what they did to find him his forever Family. It is hard work they do but very rewarding!
