United Way to reap cookbook benefits

PRESQUE ISLE and CARIBOU, Maine — The United Way of Aroostook, a nonprofit committed to connecting Aroostook County citizens to resources, has been selected as a benefiting nonprofit of the “Fresh Cookbook” fundraiser at Hannaford for the months of July and August.

The Fresh Cookbook was released this month and contains the best recipes from Fresh magazine that Hannaford customers have enjoyed for years, designed both for everyday cooking and special occasions.  Every Fresh Cookbook purchased generates a $5 donation to support the critical work of nonprofit organizations who are working to eliminate childhood hunger and improve child nutrition. Each cookbook contains $15 in grocery coupons.

Hannaford has selected many nonprofit organizations to receive local store donations each month through the cookbook fundraiser, and chose United Way as the benefiting nonprofit for July and August at the Caribou Hannaford store. For every cookbook sold at the local store, the company will donate $5 to United Way of Aroostook.

“Being selected as a recipient of this fundraiser has come at a perfect time for us,” said United Way of Aroostook Executive Director Sherry Locke. “This donation will help us with our pantry projects which help to address hunger in the County.”

United Way of Aroostook has a goal of raising $500 during July and August, which is equivalent to 100 cookbooks bought in support of the agency.
