ISLAND FALLS, Maine — A much needed rain came on Saturday to VaJoWa Golf Course. The results of it showed a much greener course, as many of the dry areas got their color back. The course is in great shape. A special thanks to Dick Kelley for all the trimming he has done on the course this summer. Come out and enjoy a round.
VaJoWa had a busy week. The Thirsty Thursday scramble was a great success. Finishing first were Warren Walker, Greg Gayne, Andy Ivey and Ted Pettengill with a 33. Second place, with 35 went to Stu Kelley, April Bates, Mike and Joy Ivey. One stroke back, tied for third were Steve Merry, Cecil Hanson, Peter and Carol Blood, and Tom Ryan, Dick Kelley, John and Deb Porter. Rounding out the top five with a 37 were Clay Halliday, Jon Smallwood, Ralph and Valerie Powers. This event will take place every Thursday in August with sign up by 5:00 each week.
In pairs and spares Sunday winners were Betty Smallwood, Tom Ryan and Greg Gayne at 34. One stroke back were Jon Smallwood, Sara Douglas, and Andy Ivey. Finishing third with a score of 37 were Pete Lawlor, Valerie and Ralph Powers.
Twilight League playoffs started this week. Finishing top in the American League were Bill Dwyer and Warren Walker and in the National League two teams tied for top spot. They were Tom Ryan and Dick Kelley and Scott Savage and Greg Gayne.
The County Open is this weekend with an 18 Hole Tournament Saturday at Houlton and an 18 Hole Scramble at VaJoWa on Sunday. VaJoWa will be closed Sunday for that event. There is still time to sign up for either event, just call the respective golf shop to register.
Starting this Friday, new summers hour will commence at The Slice Restaurant. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday and 4 p.m. through 8 p.m. or later Monday through Thursday. After your round, stop in for a bite and or you favorite beverage. As always the Slice is open to the public during regular hours of operation.
