ISLAND FALLS, Maine — VaJoWa was bustling activity this past weekend with the County Open and regular golf.

In the Sunday afternoon pairs and spares scramble, the winners with a 33 were Peter Lawlor, Greg Gayne, Ralph Powers and Betty Smallwood. Finishing second with a 35 were Jon Smallwood, Jon Porter, Brent Kelley and Valerie Powers. Third place went to Tom Ryan, Don Metzger,  Candy Kelley and Deb Porter with 38. They play again this Sunday at 2 p.m.

Twilight League playoffs started this past week with a couple of big upsets. Scot and Ethan Walker knocked out top National League regular season point getter 31 to 32.  Ethan had the round of his young life firing a nice 43. Joe Bishop and Garth Townsend both shot 45 and defeated higher seed Russ Toothaker and Steve Merry 34 to 38.

The Thirsty Thursday scramble will start at 5:15 and all players will receive a beverage coupon at The Slice to be used after the round.  The Slice has started its late summer schedule, open Monday through Thursday from 4 to 8 pm or later and opening Friday through Sunday at 11 a.m.

The course will be closed Wednesday, Aug. 22 and will be hosting the Upper St John Valley Senior golf Association.
