Russell defeats Haines in kids kart race at Spud Speedway

CARIBOU, MaineThe seventh race of the Northern Maine Karting Association at Spud Speedway in Caribou featured some close racing in the classes despite low kart counts.

The Kids Kart event was led by Caribou’s Kayden Haines until a spin two laps from the end allowed Kyle Russell of Easton to shoot past Haines and garner his first win at the track.

Other results from the series held Saturday are as follows:

Aroostook Trusses Junior Cage Karts: Kyle Russell, Easton; and Aroostook Savings and Loan Senior Cage Karts: first, Damian Theriault, Caribou; second, Janet Bosse, Caribou; and third, Tom Hale, Westmanland.

The season finale will be the NMKA/Spud Speedway Karting Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22, with three feature races in each division. Pit gates will open at 9:30 a.m. and racing begins at noon.
