HOULTON, Maine — It was a wonderful weekend for our Club Championship/Presidents Cup Tournament.
After Saturday’s first round, we had a two-way tie between Drew Marino and Porter Gervais at one over par 73, followed by Jerry York at 74 then four tied at 79. There may have been a little too much partying that night, or maybe the pin placements were a little tougher, but the scores were not as good on Sunday.
Gervais and Marino battled each other down to the last hole as the rest of the foursome faded away. Marino sank a critical putt on the 17th hole and held off Gervais on 18 to win the Club Championship by one stroke, finishing with a combined 148. Gervais finished second at 149, followed by Ben Tuttle and Jerry York at 155.
The B division was won by Tony Marino, Drew’s father. Tom Moakler held off Brent Lincoln by one stroke to win C division. To complete the family sweep, Misty Marino, Drew’s mother, captured the Ladies division.
Wyatt Harvey was the winner in the Junior division. Drew Marino also won the Men’s Presidents Cup as did Misty who won the Ladies Presidents Cup. Congratulations to all the winners and participants.
The Men’s Twilight League playoffs started this week with 16 teams going head to head. After several underdog upsets there are now just eight doing battle this week for a chance to get in the final four.
The Ladies will be continuing their competition on Tuesday. On Thursday, Hodgdon High School will have its first match against Central Aroostook at 3:30 p.m.
The Lakeside Restaurant continues its fine tradition of great food and wonderful ambiance. Call Nancy at 694-9494 to make reservations for dinner or lunch Wednesday through Sunday.
As we wind down the summer season, remember that this is really the beginning of the best part of the year to to be on the golf course. So come on out and play a few rounds while the weather is great and conditions are beautiful. And I hope to see you on the course.
