Shire football still searching for first win

HOULTON, Maine — It has been a rough start to the season for the Houlton football team. Four games into the season, and the Shires are still searching for their first win on the year.

The team’s latest loss came Friday night at home as Houlton (0-4) fell 42-14 to Washington Academy (2-2). In that game, Houlton quarterback Noah Reynolds rushed for one touchdown and threw for another in the losing bid. He finished 18-of-32 for 227 yards with a touchdown and interception.

Caleb Solomon hauled in seven catches for 78 yards, while Darrien Henderson had five receptions for 62 yards and Will Belyea had four catches for 54 yards and a touchdown.

“It has been a rough start for sure,” coach Brian Reynolds said Monday. “We had way too many penalties. We need to clean up the penalties. We are a very young team with just three seniors, so that will come.”

The road does not get much easier as the Shires host Dexter (2-2) on Friday at 7 p.m.
