VaJoWa Golf – week of September 26, 2018

ISLAND FALLS, Maine — A few recent frost delays have kept the course closed until 10 a.m. on those days. Keep in mind that walking on frost covered grass can damage or kill it.  So on those days this fall when the temperature dips down, plan your golf game later in the day after the turf warms up. With that said, the golf shop hours have been posted: Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., conditions permitting.

This Sunday at 10 a.m. will be a Two Person Cash Scramble, with a minimum combined handicap of 15. Twice as many spots will be paid out to net winners as gross winners.  So call the shop at 463-2128 to sign up your team. The entry fee is $50 per member and $60 for non-members and includes pins and skins.

Sunday odd couples winners this past week were Jenness Gushee, Ralph Powers, Carol Blood and April Bates with a fine 33. In second with a 35 were Jennifer Metzger, Cecil Hanson and Ricky Bates.  Finishing third with a 36 were Bev Osborn, Cliff Randall and Peter Blood.

The Wednesday evening winners this week were Becky Kelley, Dick Kelley and Warren Walker with a 31, with birdies on the Nos. 2, 4, 7, 8, and 9 holes. Finishing second with a 33 were Jon Smallwood, Brent Kelley and Clay Halliday scoring birds on the Nos. 2, 4 and 8 holes. Third place went to Betty Smallwood, Tom Ryan and Stuart Kelley with 37.  Thank you Stu for setting up and running this weekly event.

The leaves are starting to show their fall colors.  The course conditions are the best they have been all year.  Make it a point to come out and enjoy a round of golf.

The Slice restaurant is open Wednesday through Friday at 4pm and Saturday and Sunday at 11.  Check out the daily specials on the board. A great round of golf, great food and drink, what more could you ask for?!
