MONTICELLO, Maine — Deputies with the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office put a Linneus man behind bars Saturday after investigating a break-in at the Lake Road Baptist Church.

According to acting Sheriff Shawn Gillen, officers charged Robert Brewer, 26, with burglary, theft, possession of drugs and violation of conditions of release.

The ACSO received a report of break-in at the church Saturday morning. Upon investigation, deputy Rick York discovered the church had been ransacked and multiple items were reported missing.

A sheriff’s office crime scene technician assisted in the investigation and collected physical evidence from the scene.

A neighborhood canvass and interviews led deputies to Brewer, who was working nearby. Brewer was searched, based on bail conditions from an earlier unrelated arrest, and found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Deputies also found items believed to have been taken from the church.

They then took Brewer into custody and obtained a search warrant to check a mobile home located on the Somerville Road in Linneus where Brewer was staying. In that search, deputies found a number of items believed to be stolen from the church.

Officers took Brewer to the Aroostook County Jail, pending an appearance before the court.

Gillen praised the deputies for their hard work on the investigation as well as those members of the community who were keeping an eye on their neighborhood and shared what they saw. Deputies Corey Saucier and Vance Palmer and Sgt. Matt Cummings assisted in the investigation.
