WASHBURN, Maine — As part of its recent grant funding, the Washburn Memorial Library wanted to create a green space at the entrance. Staff planned the garden, and students from Don Hanson’s Washburn Woodworking Club turned out to help.
Just before harvest break began in September, the students dug and planted the garden outside the front steps.
The Woodworking Club, which meets once a week after school, has completed many projects around town, including the playground at the pool site and adding covered picnic tables at the Thomas Brewer Memorial Park.
Members track their hours and raise funds for a trip at the end of the school year.
Hanson and his wife have taken the students to Boston, New York City and Philadelphia over the years.
