Long-standing yoga studio finds new home in Houlton

HOULTON, Maine — Linda Rowe has been helping people remove stress and achieve a more healthy way of life in southern Aroostook County for 18 years.

Rowe previously operated a yoga business known as “Mindful Way,” in Market Square, but when an opportunity came up to move into a more modern studio, she jumped at the chance. Thus was born the Suite Seven Yoga and Ayurveda studio.

Located at 2 Water St., Rowe’s yoga studio is tastefully decorated with calming shades of sage green on the walls, along with hardwood flooring, and an abundance of natural light.

“We tried to create a relaxing, almost spa-like feel to the studio,” Rowe said. “It is almost like you are stepping into an entirely different place when you come in.”

According to her website, http://backwoodsyogini.com/, Rowe began her yoga journey in 1994. “She brings varied experiences to her classes, which include the teachings of Yogi Amrit Desai, Bhagavan Das and Swami Divyananda Saraswatiji. Her practice began in New Paltz, New York, at the Mid Hudson School of Yoga and continued with Kim Valeri of YogaSpirit Studios in Essex, Massachusetts.”

“Ayurveda is a holistic, science-based way to take care of your health,” Rowe explained. “It’s preventative in nature, but if you have some medical issue going on, it can help.”

She relocated to Houlton in 2000 and immediately set up shop teaching yoga in the Shiretown.

Rowe is a registered yoga teacher, which certifies her to teach yoga safely and properly. Her yoga classes include an eclectic mix including Kripalu, Iyengar and Anusara influences. In Houlton, Rowe met Pastor Dave Hutchinson, who shared her passion of living “off the grid” and the two married.

Her classes are offered by reservation. For more information, or to schedule an appointment visit Rowe’s website.
