Regular season closes for local hoop squads

The regular season wrapped up Thursday for basketball teams from the region and the playoffs begin today. Summaries of games played Feb. 4-7 are as follows:

Shead girls 72, East Grand 34 — At Danforth Thursday, Ryleigh Andrews tossed in 19 points, Halle Sullivan added 18 and Justine Cheney had 16 as Shead notched the victory over the Vikings. For East Grand, Jordyn Cowger had 15 points, Phoebe Foss chipped in nine and Madeline Cowger had eight.

Fort Fairfield girls 51, Fort Kent 46 — On Thursday in Fort Kent, the Tigers led at all the quarter breaks and came up with a huge road win which bumped them up the rankings and guaranteed a home prelim game. Brenna LeVasseur scored 15 points and Kourtney West added 12 for Fort Fairfield, while Desirae Hafford’s 17 points led the Warriors.

Fort Fairfield boys 45, Easton 39 — The Tigers closed out their regular season with a hard-fought win at Easton Thursday. Individual scoring was not reported.

Southern Aroostook 58, Katahdin 28 — At Stacyville Feb. 7, Southern Aroostook closed out its season with a win over Katahdin. Individual results were not reported.

Houlton 73, Calais 38 — At Calais Feb. 7, the Shires rolled to the easy win. Individual results were not reported.

Fort Kent 54, Central Aroostook 46 — The Warriors avenged an early-season loss to the Panthers Feb. 6 in Mars Hill behind Jace Rocheleau and Camden Jandreau, who scored 20 and 14 points, respectively. Ben Thomas led CA with 17 points and Brayden Bradbury added 12, including a fast-break dunk.

Southern Aroostook girls 75, Katahdin 49 — At Stacyville Wednesday, the Warriors beat Katahdin as Makaelyn Porter tossed in 24 points to lead the way. Kassidy Mathers added 18 and Kacy Daggett had 10. For Katahdin, Haley Landry had 17 points and Hannah Kyllonen chipped in 14.

Washburn girls 48, Easton 25 — The Beavers won convincingly at Easton Feb. 6 behind Kassandra Farley’s 24-point performance. Raegyn Chavez added nine for Washburn, while Cecilia Morin scored 16 for the Bears.

Southern Aroostook girls 68, East Grand 26 — At Dyer Brook Tuesday, Feb. 5, Southern Aroostook’s Kylie Vining led the way with 15 points, while Makaelyn Porter added 13 and Sydney Brewer had 10. For East Grand, Jordyn Cowger had 11 points and Madeline Cowger added six. SA led 21-6, 50-13 and 65-19 at the quarter breaks.

Easton boys 63, Katahdin 50 — The Bears topped the Cougars in Stacyville Feb. 5, improving their road record to 7-2. Individual scoring was not reported.

Fort Fairfield boys 81, Wisdom 46 — The Tigers gained the lopsided win in St. Agatha Feb. 5, sweeping the season series against the Pioneers. Individual scoring was not reported.

Fort Fairfield girls 62, Wisdom 31 — On Feb. 5 in St. Agatha, the Fort Fairfield girls had no trouble defeating the Pioneers. Individual scoring was not reported.

Calais girls 64, Houlton 50 — At Calais Feb. 4, Mia Henderson paced the Shires with 16 points while Teagan Ewings, in her first action since suffering a broken bone in her hand earlier in the season, added 14 points. Rebecca Howe chippedin seven, while Abbie Worthley added six, Olivia Henderson had three and Kennedy Buzzeo and Samantha Johnson both had two. For Calais, Olivia Huckins had 22 points and Sophia McVicar added 18.

Woodland  girls 72, East Grand 36 — At Danforth Feb. 4, the visiting Dragons rolled to victory. Emily Curtis had 24 points, while Brook Russell added 17. For East Grand, Phoebe Foss had 14 points, Jordyn Cowger added 10, and Madeline Cowger and Emma Davis both had six.

Washburn boys 53, Hodgdon 43 — At Washburn Feb. 4, Patrick Saucier scored 21 points and Aidan Churchill tossed in 19 as the Beavers bested the Hawks. Andrew Tuttle fired in 17 points to pace Hodgdon, while Josh Palmer added nine, Josh Foster and Seth Tapley both had five, Damien Sanders added four, Dylan Jurson had two and Tristan Jackman had one.

Greater Houlton Christian Academy boys 51, Van Buren 36 — At Van Buren Feb. 4, Will Austin led the way with 15 points, while Parker Brewer added 12 for the Eagles of GHCA. Isaac Potter chipped in 10 points, while Cole Winslow added six, Austin Winslow had four and Joel Carmichael and Ethan Grant both had two. For the Crusaders, Luc Perreault had 18 points. GHCA led 14-11, 30-19 and 41-24 at the quarter breaks.

Central Aroostook girls 79, Van Buren 24 — The Panthers won easily on Feb. 4 during Senior Day at Central Aroostook High School. Breann Bradbury netted a season-high 26 points and Kayla Martin notched 11 to lead CA.

Hodgdon girls 40, Washburn 38 — The Hawks won a close one at Washburn Feb. 4. Individual scoring was not reported.
