PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — For more than 20 years, the Maine Art Education Association has worked to bring National Youth Art Month to the state, and a local exhibit celebrates the month with the work of Aroostook County art students.

Northern Partners, comprised of area art teachers, developed an exhibit at the Aroostook Centre Mall in Presque Isle, which will run through the end of March.

The Aroostook Youth Art Month show features a large assortment of artwork by nearly 350 students from pre-kindergarten to grade 12.

Close to 17 teachers and schools participated in creating the display. Teachers selected the best works from their classes, and invited the young artists and their families to an artists’ reception on March 8 at the mall. The exhibit opened to a packed house.

The following teachers and their students participated.

Jane Hutchison, Easton; Beth Cummings, SAD 45 in Washburn; Ellyn Whitten-Smith, Julie Nadeau and Ruth McAtee, SAD 1, Presque Isle; Lena Tingley and Jessica Goodwin, RSU 39, Caribou/Limestone; Stacy Ramsey, SAD 70, Hodgdon; Susan Beaulier, SAD 32, Ashland; Theresa Cerceo and Sonya Michaud, SAD 33, Frenchville and St. Agatha; Wanda Jackins, SAD 42, Mars Hill;  A. Anderson, B. Brissette, J. Sandstrom and K.
