UMaine president will address Presque Isle High School graduates

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Ben Greenlaw, Presque Isle High School principal, has announced that Dr. Joan Ferrini-Mundy, president of the University of Maine and University of Maine at Machias, will offer the keynote address at this year’s commencement.  

The 2019 ceremony is set for Friday, June 7, at 7 p.m. in the Presque Isle High School gymnasium.  A ticket is required.

Ferrini-Mundy assumed the role of president of the University of Maine and University of Maine at Machias on July 1, 2018.  Prior to her appointment, she was chief operating officer of the National Science Foundation.

She has had numerous teaching and research experiences in mathematics education and has worked in the field of STEM education, research and teacher education.

She has a Ph.D in mathematics from the University of New Hampshire and has been a faculty member at Michigan State University and the University of New Hampshire.

Greenlaw said, “Dr. Ferrini-Mundy has an extensive background in education and mathematics.  Coupled with her experience as president of our state’s flagship institution, she has a unique perspective to share with our graduates. I look forward to Dr. Ferrin-Mundy’s message.”
