Credit union breaks ground in Mars Hill

MARS HILL, Maine — The County Federal Credit Union broke ground on Friday, Oct. 18, on a new full-service branch at One Benjamin St. in Mars Hill.

“We’ve been looking for the opportunity to expand within our current field of membership and the Mars Hill community has the best opportunity on the Route 1-Route 1A corridor,” said Ryan Ellsworth, president and CEO.

“Once we heard a convenient location at the corner of Route 1 and Route 1A intersection was going to be available, we knew it would be a great location for our new branch,” Ellsworth said. “After taking the summer to plan and consider various options for the building, we have decided on a design that fits our needs.”

The former Mars Hill One Stop building was torn down and the land will be prepared for construction. Work will begin immediately with concrete scheduled to be poured the week of Oct. 21. Officials expect the new site to open in early summer of 2020.

“Currently we have over 1,000 members in Mars Hill and its bordering communities. We see great potential for growth in that area of The County and we are optimistic that area residents and business owners will allow us to help them meet their financial goals,” said Ellsworth.

“We deeply value our members and are extremely grateful that they continue to place their trust in us. We are looking forward to being an active member of the Mars Hill community and welcome the opportunities the new branch will present.”

With branches in Caribou, Presque Isle, Fort Fairfield, Houlton and soon to be in Mars Hill, the credit union serves over 19,100 members throughout 55 communities in Aroostook County. More information is available at www.CountyFCU.org.
