SA, Katahdin girls remain undefeated on season

The Southern Aroostook and Katahdin girls basketball teams are off to red-hot starts with both clubs sporting unblemished 3-0 records. The two teams were scheduled to meet Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Stacyville in a highly-anticipated matchup.

The following is a recap of games played through Saturday, Dec. 14.

Hodgdon 46, Ashland 21 — At Ashland Monday, the Hawks rallied from a 17-14 halftime deficit to beat Ashland on the road. Kylee Mooers had 12 points to lead the way for Hodgdon. Sabra Scott added 11 points, while Lauren McGillicuddy had seven, Emma Drew and Autumn Ganzel both added five, Marissa Dow had four and Sadie Thompson chipped in two.

For Ashland, Willow Hall led the Hornets with 11 points, while Dannie Carter and McKenna Condon both had four, Hailee Cunningham had three and Jamie Poulin chipped in two.

Hodgdon outscored the Hornets 18-3 in the third quarter to seize control of  the game.

Presque Isle 53, Houlton 40 — At Presque Isle Tuesday, Dec. 10, the Wildcats held off a late surge by Houlton for the 13-point victory. Olivia Henderson led the Shires with 12 points, Rebecca Howe added eight points, Drew Warman had six, Mia Henderson five, Emma Swallow four, Teagan Ewings three and Abbie Worthley two.

For Presque Isle, Anna Jandreau led the way with 14 points while Faith Sjoberg added 12, Maggie Castonguay 11, Anna Trombley six, Rhylee Kinney four and Alaina Legassie two.

The Wildcats led 15-11, 34-22 and 43-30 at the quarter breaks.

Southern Aroostook 82, East Grand 8 — At Dyer Brook Tuesday, Dec. 10, the Warriors improved to 2-0 on the season in another lopsided contest. 

For the Warriors, Maddie Russell led the way with 15 points, while Emma Nadeau and   Makaeylyn Porter both had 12, Camie Shields and Paige Vose both had 10, Kacy Daggett seven, Selena Botting and Bre Daggett both had four, Emma Landry and Jennah Brooks both two, and Callie Russell one.

For the Vikings, Madisyn Oliver, Phoebe Foss, Danlen Espenscheild and Jordyn Cowger each had two points.

Katahdin 51, Hodgdon 50 — At Stacyville Friday, the host-Cougars held off Katahdin for the one-point victory. Individual results were not reported by presstime.

Hermon 48, Houlton 28 — At Hermon Saturday, the Shires received six points from Drew Warman, while Mia Henderson added five, Abbie Worthley, Rebecca Howe and Kennedy Buzzeo each had four, Olivia Henderson had three, and Emma Swallow chipped in two.

For Hermon, Megan Tracy poured in 18 points and Grace Page had 12.

Hermon led 21-4, 23-18 and 39-22 at the quarter breaks.

Southern Aroostook 69, Fort Kent 38 — At Fort Kent Saturday, Makaelyn Porter poured in 16 points (including 11 in the first quarter) as Southern Aroostook rolled to its third lopsided victory of the season. Madison Russell and Cami Shields both added 14 points, while Madison Shields chipped in 11, Paige Vose seven, Kacy Daggett five, and Emma Nadeau two.

For Fort Kent, Desirae Hafford led all players with 20 points. Kailee Guimmond had six, Shaylee Jandreau five, Vivian Drolet three and Larissa Daigle and Madison Saucier both two.

Madawaska 36, East Grand 29 — At Danforth Saturday, the visiting Owls picked up the win. Individual results were not reported by presstime.

Katahdin 60, Wisdom 42 — At Stacyville Saturday, the Cougars improved to 3-0 on the season. Individual results were not reported by presstime.
