BAR HARBOR, Maine — The Caribou Vikings wrestling team won three matches of five matches Saturday, Dec. 14, at Mount Desert Island, bringing their early season dual meet record to 4-4.
Caribou beat Penobscot Valley 60-12, defeated Calais 54-18, and bested MDI 42-18. Dexter and Piscataquis Community High School both defeated the Vikings 54-24 and 48-24 respectively.
Caribou High School Wrestling Coach James “Chico” Hernandez said the Vikings were down “six wrestlers due to flu and injuries.”
Wrestlers with wins during the dual meet were Angel Riopelle in the 138-pound weight class going undefeated with five wins; Tom O’Meara (152 pounds) getting five wins and one loss; Rylee Saucier (120 pounds) with four wins and one loss; Kylie Kirschmann (106 pounds) going undefeated with two wins; Gunner Hatfield (285 pounds) four wins and one loss; Kaden DeMerchant (182 pounds) two wins and one loss; Seth Lister (170 pounds) three wins and two loses; Matt McCormack (160 pounds) three wins and two losses; Nick Pelletier (220 pounds) three wins and two losses.
During exhibition matches, Chloe Kirschmann (285 pounds) notched three wins with one loss.
DeMerchant suffered an injury during the meet. It was unknown how long, if it all, the wrestler would be out of action.
