Caribou gym packed to capacity as Viking boys defeat Wildcats

CARIBOU, Maine — It was standing room only Jan. 8 at the Caribou High School gym as the Vikings faced off against Presque Isle in a hotly-contested boys basketball game.

The Vikings managed to preserve its perfect season with a hard-fought 77-64 victory.

Caribou had a strong start, scoring a total of 21 points in the first quarter, while the Wildcats scored 14. The Vikings outscored Presque Isle 20-12 in the second quarter for the 41-26 halftime lead.

Presque Isle picked up the pace in the second half, scoring 21 points in the third quarter to Caribou’s 19. The two squads traded baskets in the final period, resulting in the 77-64 victory for Caribou.

Caribou’s Parker Deprey led all players with a whopping 42 points, while Alex Bouchard added 10. For Presque Isle Caleb Wheaton scored an impressive 38 points throughout the game. Wildcats Malachi Cummings and Xavier McAtee each scored 10 points.
