Maine State Police Troop F Report, May 18-24, 2020

HOULTON, Maine — The Maine State Police Troop F barracks in Houlton responded to a number of calls for service during the period of May 18-24, including the following.

Monday, May 18

SHERMAN — Trooper Castonguay was getting fuel at the Irving gas station in Sherman and observed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. An investigation revealed the driver had a suspended driver’s license and was waiting for him to leave so he could get gas and continue driving home to Mapleton. Tr. Castonguay issued the man a criminal summons and helped him arrange for a licensed driver to come get him and his vehicle.

SMYRNA — Tr. Saucier began investigating a theft from RC Logging in Smyrna. The owner reported gas cans stolen from two boats he was storing for customers. The investigation is ongoing. 

ST. JOHN PLT. — Tr. Curtin received information of a male driving a motorcycle who was under suspension. Warden Raymond was in the area and assisted following the motorcycle until Tr. Curtin arrived. Tr. Curtin arrested the 27-year-old St. John man for violating conditions of release and charged him for operating after suspension and other traffic violations.

ORIENT — Tr. Sylvia was called to a residence in Orient when a Realtor reported showing the home and discovered signs someone had been staying there. The property owner lives in Oregon and it appeared as though someone had been staying there recently. The case remains under investigation. 

Tuesday, May 19

ASHLAND — Tr. Kilcollins was finishing a traffic stop and observed a vehicle pass him with an expired inspection certificate. When he turned to stop the vehicle, it went out of his sight. After a scan of the area, he located it on a woods road not far from the main road. The female driver stated she was scared so she turned onto the woods road. The female did not have a valid driver’s license. Tr. Kilcollins issued the female a criminal summons for the violation and helped her arrange for a licensed driver to get her and the vehicle.

ST. FRANCIS — Tr. Curtin began investigating a theft in St Francis. The homeowner reported parts missing off his lawn tractor. The investigation is ongoing. 

Thursday, May 21

LITTLETON — Sgt. Clark was conducting traffic enforcement on U.S. Highway 1, Littleton, when he observed a vehicle pass another car in the breakdown lane at 93 mph in a posted 55-mph zone. The driver told Sgt. Clark the other vehicle he passed was not allowing him to go by and was driving slowly. The man had an intermediate driver’s license. The man was issued a criminal summons for speeding, and a traffic summons for illegal/unsafe passing and for not having valid insurance.

WALLAGRASS — Tr. Desrosier was conducting traffic enforcement in Wallagrass and stopped a vehicle for an infraction. During the stop, it was discovered the driver had a suspended Maine driver’s license. Tr. Desrosier issued the man a criminal summons for the violation and had the vehicle towed from the roadway.

Friday, May 22

MARS HILL — Tr. Rider stopped a vehicle on Silver Street in Mars Hill for an inspection sticker that had expired in 2018. The operator admitted to operating after suspension and was also on bail. Tr. Rider summoned the operator for OAS and violating condition of release.

SHERMAN — Tr. Cotton investigated a report of numerous bad checks from an individual living in Silver Ridge to a Sherman gas station. Tr. Cotton met with the complainant and found that the suspect had not been notified of the bad checks yet. Tr. Cotton located the individual and issued him a five-day notice to pay the owner of the store.

Saturday, May 23

T3R7 — Tr. Cotton responded to a camp on the Seboeis river in T3R7. The caller advised that a camp owner and its caretaker located three adult males at the camp where they had broken in and rummaged through the camp. The caretaker of the camp was able to block the three men in the driveway so they could not leave and held them there at gunpoint until troopers arrived. The three men broke the doors to the camp and an outbuilding. Some items were removed from the camp and located outside. All three men were arrested and charged with burglary, trespass, theft, and criminal mischief and transported to the Penobscot County Jail. 

EAGLE LAKE — Tr. Curtin began investigating a criminal mischief/theft in Eagle Lake. The camp owner reported damage to her property, and upon Tr. Curtin’s investigation, they discovered property had been stolen. The case remains under investigation. 

Sunday, May 24

CARIBOU — Troopers Levesque, Rider, Casavant, Sylvia and Sgt. Haines assisted the Caribou Police Department in searching for individuals wanted in connection with a stolen UTV. The male and female fled from CPD, ditched the side-by-side off the Bowles Road and continued on foot. Tr. Sylvia and K-9 Ziva tracked the subjects. The two were eventually spotted walking across a nearby field and were confronted by police. A third person was initially believed to be involved and the search continued for a short time, but after further investigation the two were found to be alone and charged with theft by CPD. 

FRENCHVILLE — Tr. Curtin began investigating a theft of cardboard Coke signs from a local establishment. The signs where located and returned and the owner decided not to seek prosecution.
