Elks official impressed with amenities for vets

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Maine Elks Association President Anthony Gause and first lady Linda paid a recent visit to the Presque Isle Lodge 1954.

During their visit, they were able to tour the Homeless Veterans’ Furniture Bank, which is a joint venture of the local Elks lodge and the Aroostook Veterans’ Alliance. Elks members Jim Gehring and Carl Olsen served as “tour guides.”

Both Gehring and Olsen are service officers qualified by the Veterans Administration.  In that capacity, they are well informed as to various benefits available to qualifying veterans.

The Gauses said they were impressed by the volume, quality and quantity of the furniture and small appliances stored at the furniture bank, including new, high-quality five-piece kitchen table and chair sets, along with small appliances, including microwaves, convection ovens and coffeemakers.

The bank also contains some items of former hotel furniture, including desks, bureaus, couches and chairs.
