Santa plans meet-and-greet in Mapleton

The Mapleton Daze Committee announced their new upcoming fun fundraiser, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Children are invited to participate in a drive-thru visit with Santa Claus around the Mapleton Lions Club.  Children attending will receive a goodie bag  and an opportunity for a photo with Santa.  Children will be required to stay in their cars or trucks while meeting Santa and his elves.

As this is a fundraiser for the 2021 Mapleton Daze Festival, there will be a charge per child of $5 and a nonperishable item to help stock the Community Cupboard.

Following all COVID-19 protocols, Santa and his Elves will be wearing masks and/or face shields as they take pictures with the kids, who will be required to stay inside their cars.

Organizers advised everyone that there will only be 200 bags available, and only for the kids.  Lineup will start at 9:30 a.m.

The Mapleton Daze Committee asked everyone to help spread the word by telling your family and friends.  They want to put smiles on the kids’ faces in this hard year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Within about 90 minutes, the Mapleton Daze Committee sold out all of their chicken stew and baked bean dinners. Even hunters came out of the woods to make sure there was dinner on their tables. More than 15 home-bound individuals received delivered meals at home. (Courtesy of Terry Sandusky)

Thanking harvest diners

Last Saturday, Nov. 7, the State Road Advent Christian Church conducted a successful drive-thru harvest benefit supper at their church.

The traditional roast turkey dinner meals went out very fast.  The church thanked everyone for the donations made that allowed the church to provide some financial assistance to Raymond and Ardis Humprey of Washburn, who have had major medical expenditures.

Everyone is looking forward to next year’s harvest dinner which hopefully will be able to be held again in the church.

MAPELTON, Maine — November 9, 2020 — The Mapleton Daze chicken stew meal was successful because of the volunteer help from the committee and the Mapleton Lions Club, which is a major sponsor of the annual event. Mark your calendars

More information will come soon, but there will be another community Thanksgiving dinner put on in Mapleton.  The Mapleton Lions Club and others will be helping Bob and Darcy McBay of the Mapleton Diner serve, package and hand out the dinners at this Thanksgiving dinner drive-thru.
