PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Local author Dr. Dick Graves has released his latest book, “Great Trivia for Everyone.”

The 164-page book uncovers facts from world, military and human history, the sport arena, and from the entertainment world.

“The book explores thousands of ordinary and extraordinary minutia and trivialities from every corner of our planet; facts about things, places, people including strange tales of famous and not-so-famous characters who walk and have walked among us,” Graves said.

“Each section is a fairly short read and will, undoubtedly, brighten readers’ days with only casual reading,” he added.

Stories include riches-to-rags accounts of the once rich, the last surviving World War I soldier, the political struggle among Jesse Owens, Adolf Hitler and FDR  with the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, old-car stuff, and truly unusual baseball trivia. Many strange and extraordinary facts from the animal and plant world are included.

Graves is a veteran author who has written many historical articles of local interest for The Star-Herald. Over the last 15 years, he has written three books chronicling the history of his birthplace, Presque Isle: “Forgotten Times: Presque Isle’s First 150 Years,” “Forgotten Times: A Walk Through History” and “The History of Public Education in Presque Isle, Maine.”

“Great Trivia” is the first in a planned series, the second of which will follow sometime this coming summer, Graves said.

He said no politics or religion is included in the book, which can be purchased at Merchants on the Corner in Presque Isle or ordered on Amazon.

Graves said he would be more than happy to answer any questions, and can be reached at his office in Presque Isle or via email at rgraves001@maine.rr.com
