GHCA holds National Honor Society ceremony

HOULTON, Maine — Greater Houlton Christian Academy welcomed six new students to its National Honor Society with a special induction ceremony held March 23.

Changes were made to the school’s traditional ceremony because of COVID-19 restrictions. Instead of holding it at the First Baptist Church, the event was instead held in the gymnasium at GHCA.

“We were limited on who could attend due to COVID restrictions, but we were able to have two family members for each NHS member,” explained Kelly Little, administrative assistant at the school.

The six newly inducted members were juniors Daniel Ross, Brock Thompson, Alyssa Nightingale and Aubri Brewer; and sophomores Sadie Thompson and Drew Duttweiler.

The incoming members join seniors Silas Graham, Joel Carmichael, Jeremy Stone and Jessica Quint as school representatives.

The ceremony was led by Talitha Grant, NHS adviser, and assisted by Head of School Matthew Smith. The socially distanced ceremony featured a traditional candle-lighting ceremony and prayer, with Alex Bourgoin serving as the guest speaker. All in attendance wore masks in accordance with state regulations.
