BLAINE and PERHAM, Maine — The towns of Blaine and Perham each held annual town meetings and elections recently.
The Blaine town meeting was held on March 22 in the high school music room, and according to Town Clerk Janet Bradbury, there were no objections raised during the meeting and all the town warrants passed.
Selectmen Neil Grass and Jean Smith were both re-elected to three-year terms.
Shawn Gillen was re-elected to the MSAD 42 School Board for a three-year term.
The town’s municipal budget passed at $613,136.
“That was up $12,421 from last year,” Bradbury said.
The Perham elections were on March 22, followed by the annual town meeting on March 23 at the Perham town office.
There were only write-in candidates for the open seats, Town Clerk John Hedman said.
“When there are write-ins, I have to call to see if they will accept the position,” he said.
Anthony Huston accepted a three-year term to the Board of Selectmen.
And Starlett Lary accepted a seat on the MSAD 45 School Committee.
All town warrants passed without objection.
The municipal budget of $263,098.41 passed. That is a $39,792.46 increase over last year’s $223,305.95.
Hedman said there will be a tax increase this year, but until they have the school budget they have no way of determining the size of the increase.
