100 Years Ago – April 20, 1921

At the Houlton court Nearly all of Caribou’s lawyers were in Houlton Tuesday for the opening of the court sessions.

Power line in progress — The farmers on the Albair Road made arrangements with the Caribou Water, Light & Power Co. for the light on their road. The poles are all set out and work will soon begin on this extension.

75 Years Ago – April 17, 1946

Chicken coming to Caribou — Kentucky Fried Chicken announced intentions to move to Caribou’s downtown shopping mall. The target date for the opening of the new place is June 1.

New plant to begin operations — Clark Distillery Inc. will begin operation of its industrial alcohol plant in Caribou Monday, according to an announcement made yesterday by Superintendent John Barnard.

50 Years Ago – April 20, 1971

Spuds head ‘Down Under’ — More than 300 pounds of Aroostook County’s pride took a ride in a KC-135 Stratotanker to Australia last Friday morning with a crew from the 42nd Air Refueling Squadron here, donated by farmer James Tweedie of Robinson. The Russell-Burbanks were accompanied with a note which read: “How do you like these potatoes?”

Newly elected Recently elected officers of the Limestone High School Future Farmers of America included Greg Bell, Vice President, Mike Donovan, President, Rod Cyr, Secretary. Also present were Fred Greenier, reporter, Gayle Gagnon, sentinel and Jesse Philbrick, treasurer.

25 Years Ago – April 17, 1996

New queens reign Two new queens were crowned at an April pageant in New Sweden. Reigning as Little Miss New Sweden is Alysia Thibodeau, and Samantha Lord was crowned the community’s first Junior Miss New Sweden.

Proficiency Award winners Honored with proficiency awards at the Caribou FFA’s Chapter’s April 2 banquet with members Eric Landen, and Chad Bell. The pair received their awards from Lynn McNeal, director of the Caribou Regional Technology Center, and Judie Bougie, student services coordinator.
