CARIBOU, Maine — The AARP Tax Aide group at the VFW Hall in Caribou has announced that their 2021 season will end on Thursday, May 13, with hours until then remaining at 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
COVID social distancing and masking rules will be rigorously enforced. There will be limited capacity for clients in the building at any one time. Clients need to provide a photo ID for the primary person on the return, as well as all pertinent tax documents. If paperwork is missing, clients will be asked to return another time with all necessary documents. As always, clients should bring a copy of the most recent prior year return, and this year they should bring their own pens.
Intake facilitators will, if needed, assist each client in filling out the intake information that IRS requires of the process. Unless the client wishes to paper file, the group will e-file the return. On rare occasions, a paper file may be required. Those wishing to have direct deposit of a refund or direct withdrawal of a payment, must provide current banking information.
The group extends deep gratitude to the Caribou VFW for the use of their facilities this season, and many seasons in the past. Says Penny Kern, district coordinator for Aroostook County, “the cooperation and hospitality provided by the VFW have been outstanding, enabling a positive experience for both preparers and taxpayers, especially in this difficult COVID year. We look forward to more years of successful tax assistance in the future.”
Finally, Site Coordinator Bob White expressed his thanks to Betty and Carol, facilitators, and to Bobbi, Spike, Lowell, Lisa, and Penny, preparers, for another year of devoted service to the community.
