Wildcats shut out Shires in boys, girls tennis

HOULTON, Maine — The Presque Isle boys and girls tennis teams each picked up 5-0 shutout victories over Houlton Tuesday afternoon in a match played in Houlton.

With the victories, both Wildcat boys and girls teams improved their season records to 5-4, while the Houlton girls dropped to 2-7 and the Houlton boys are 1-8.

The Presque Isle boys are currently ranked 10th in the Class B North standings, while the Wildcat girls are seventh. The Houlton girls are ranked 12th in Class C, while the Houlton boys are erroneously listed as being in Class B on the MPA site. Once the Shire boys are placed in the Class C standings, Houlton would be ranked eighth in the region.

Individual results from Tuesday’s boys match, with Wildcat players listed first, were: in singles, Landon Thompson beat Jadon Gentle, 8-0; Ben Flannery bested Caleb Solomon, 8-4; and Garrett LeTourneau defeated Gage Bartlett, 8-0.

In doubles, Ben Duprey and Jack Hallett defeated Jackson Cullen and Konnor Lynds, 8-3; and Gavin Dunleavy and Jack Buck beat Bradley Bean and Landon Dirusso, 8-2.

Individual results from the girls match, with Wildcats listed first, were: in singles, Madi Hedrich beat Raegan Perfitt, 8-1; Libby Kinney defeated Natalie Delucca, 8-0; and Julia Blake bested Dina Koretsky, 8-6.

In doubles, Isabella Keegan and Emma Deeves beat Haley Quint and Hillary Peabody, 8-2; and Ellie Clark and Rossalyn Buck beat Cindy Hannigan and Riley Sylvain, 8-4.
