Presque Isle veterans pause to remember fallen service members

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Though rain snuffed out Monday’s planned Memorial Day parade in Presque Isle, veterans groups gathered for ceremonies to remember those who lost their lives in service to the country.

Flags flew beside veterans’ graves at Fairmount Cemetery, where a brief remembrance was held by members of the Smart-Ricker Unit 10 Disabled American Veterans and the Hayward-Frazier Post 2599 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Later the group paused at Veterans Memorial Park to lay wreaths in honor of fallen service members. Among those attending were VFW Post Commander James Jaques, chaplain for the DAV and VFW Andy Kinney, and DAV service officer, treasurer and parade commissioner Rod Cameron.

Cameron played taps as a solemn conclusion to the ceremonies.
