Nomination papers for city seats available soon

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Nomination papers will be available beginning Friday, July 23, for those who wish to run for seats on the Presque Isle City Council and SAD 1 board.

The Council seat is a four-year term while school board seats are three-year terms. The School Board seats will be for sections 3 (Mapleton and part of Presque Isle), 4 (Westfield and part of Presque Isle), and 7, 10, 13, 14 and 15, which are all Presque Isle.  

Anyone interested in running for the seats may pick up the paperwork from the office of the city clerk, currently located on the third floor of City Hall.  Completed paperwork must be turned in by 5 p.m. on Sept. 3.  

Each City Council candidate must be a resident of Presque Isle and obtain 75-150 signatures of qualified registered voters in Presque Isle.  Candidates for school board must be residents of the section for which they are running and obtain 25-50 signatures of qualified registered voters from that section.  

The contests will be decided in the Nov. 2 election. 

Election ward clerk and election warden are also needed to work Election Day.  These positions require nomination papers with 25-50 signatures of qualified registered voters from Presque Isle.  

Election workers are also needed; these must be registered voters in Presque Isle.
