Northern Maine Community College plans info night

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Northern Maine Community College will host a college info night from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5.

The session will inform area residents about their options for higher education and training offered by the college, and will take place in the Christie Building lobby. Participants who sign-up for a course will receive a course registration fee waiver along with a waiver for the application fee.

College officials will be on hand to meet with individuals interested in learning more about the College and its various courses, certificate and associate degree programs. People may walk in at any time to speak with an NMCC representative or call ahead to make an appointment at (207) 768-2785.

“The goal of info night is to encourage those who are unsure about whether or not college is the right place for them, to get their questions answered,” said Matthew Grillo, NMCC dean of students.  “We want individuals to become more familiar with NMCC and hope they will take the opportunity to enroll in at least one class, just to get the ball rolling to further their education.”

Area high school juniors and seniors and equivalent home school students are also invited to learn more about the opportunities to enroll in tuition-free college courses offered by NMCC in their local area.

According to Sarah Stackhouse, NMCC On-Course for College coordinator, “Studies show that high school students who take advantage of early college opportunities are better prepared for college when compared with their peers who haven’t had such experience. Plus, early college students save time and money, learn valuable time management and study skills, and gain confidence in their ability to be successful at the college level.”

Attendees will be able to learn more about financing their education and about the financial aid opportunities available to many students.  A recent cost comparison affirmed that NMCC and its sister campuses in the Maine Community College System offer the lowest public higher education tuition rates in the New England region at $96 per credit hour.
