CARIBOU, Maine — Evan Chapman scored two unassisted goals in the first half for Presque Isle, and the Wildcats held on for a 2-1 victory over Fort Kent to win the championship of the annual 7 vs 7 High School Summer Soccer Tourney held Saturday, July 31, at Caribou High School.

Austin Delisle tallied Fort Kent’s second half goal with an assist from Will Roy, which was the only goal scored on the stout Presque Isle defense, led by goalie Xavier McAtee, the entire day.

The format consisted of pool play competition between the teams to determine seedings, followed by a knockout round to crown the Champion.  In addition to Presque Isle and Fort Kent, schools participating included Caribou, Central Aroostook, Easton, Houlton, Madawaska, Van Buren, Washburn and Wisdom.

The annual 7 vs 7 tournament wraps up the summer soccer season in The County.  Schools that follow the state-wide MPA schedule now have two weeks of a hands-off period, with the preseason kicking off on Monday, Aug. 16.

Schools that observe the traditional harvest break in their regular season have already started their preseason workouts.  The first countable game for those schools is Friday, Aug. 13.
