These past few months have been challenging with all of the animals we have taken in that have required extensive vet care. Three dogs needed to be neutered, spayed and vaccinated. One had substantial hair loss, severe dental issues and something called oronasal fistula (he has a hole in his mouth).
We have a cat that is scheduled to have its thyroid out so he can live a comfortable life without having to be medicated. We took in a mom and four babies, we believe mom had been hit by a car, she had severe bruising to her back leg which affected her sciatica.
We took in a kitten who had no tail and had maggots eating away at her flesh. She needed stitches because it was so bad. We also had a cat that needed a dental procedure.
These are all situations we could not say “no” to. Once you see these animals or even just hear their stories you become committed and you cannot walk away.
At times it is overwhelming and we look at the bills and think how are we going to be able to do all of this. We always find a way and many times it is because of you, our generous supporters. We are committed to helping as many animals as we can.
We are doing online fundraisers for now. We have thought long and hard about resuming our bake sales and while we know now is not the most opportune time with the rising cases of COVID in our small community, we have scheduled a bake sale for Saturday, Sept. 4. We will take the necessary precautions, so things will work a little differently. We will have pulled pork, meatballs and chili, but everything will be pre packaged. We will also have our regular baked goods. Our prices will be a little more due to the rising costs of everything. Everything will be outside and you will ring the doorbell to pay. We ask that you wear a mask as a courtesy. Our goal is simply to raise money for the animals the safest way we know how. We hope you will come and support us.
We are very proud to announce we have a wellness and vaccination clinic happening Saturday Sept. 18 at the sanctuary. For more details or to book an appointment call Lorraine at 532-7387.
Thank you for your continued support and as always thank you for reading our column.
