From the Bunkers – Week of September 22, 2021

On Saturday, the Ryan Wright Memorial Scramble was held. Porter Gervais and Josh McGuire finished first. Second place was Ben Lynds and Jim Quirk.  Third place was Ben and Kody Tuttle.  Even though there was some rain during play, everyone had a great time.

Over $2,200 was raised toward the Ryan Wright Memorial Scholarship, thank you to all that contributed.

This Sunday, Sept. 26, Houlton Project Grad will be holding its annual Cross Country Par 3. This is a fun event allowing you to play the golf course like you never have. Teams of four, $25 per player, each team must have at least one lady. Registration at 1:30 and shotgun starts at 2 p.m.  Please call the clubhouse to sign up 207-532-2662, limited to the first 18 teams.

Wednesday is the first day of fall, but don’t let that make you think golf is over. The clubhouse will be open until mid/late October. There is still plenty of time to get a few more rounds in.

In our quest to recognize the many valuable volunteers that HCGC is so thankful for, we move to Jerry York, our longest-standing board member.  York spearheaded the establishment of the Golf for Life program in 2016 which has been integral in growing our membership. He has also been the primary organizer of two recent fundraising efforts to buy much-needed equipment, make course improvements, and support the GFL program. On top of that, York chairs the business committee, works on the volunteer days, helps out with tournaments and does just about anything else we ask of him. Thanks Jerry!

The Lakeside has moved to its fall hours. Lunch Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; dinner Wednesday-Saturday, 4-8 p.m.; Sunday brunch 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Lakeside will be closing for the season Oct. 3, so please make plans now to get out and have one last great meal this year from Chef Bill and Nancy!
