MSSM shuts out visiting East Grand in boys, girls soccer

LIMESTONE, Maine — The Maine School of Science and Mathematics’ boys and girls soccer teams were both victorious Monday, Sept 27, as the Penguins hosted East Grand.

The Penguin boys were victorious 12-0, while the girls won 4-0. For girls coach Luke Hafford, the victory was the first win of his varsity coaching career.

In the boys game, MSSM started the attack early, scoring just 27 seconds into the game. Liam Hollis scored three first-half goals to lead his squad. Oliver Sites had two goals, while Raymond Li, Justin Pelletier, Raymond Dulac, Griffin Duigan, Bau Bau Nguyen, Greyson Orne and Aryan Bawa each had solo goals.

MSSM goalie Connor Start stopped both shots he faced, while Vikings goalie Derek Golding made 14 saves.

The Penguins improved to 1-1-1 on the season, while East Grand dropped to 0-2.

In the girls game, Mattie Luce had a goal and an assist to lead MSSM. Esme Deschamps, Rianna Mattox and Shelby Carson each had solo goals, while Luciana Chavez de Paz Solis had one assist.

Penguin keeper Hadley Blodgett had five saves on five shots, while East Grand goalie Ashlyn Napoli had six saves on 16 shots.

MSSM improved to 1-2 on the season while East Grand dipped to 0-2.
