The soccer postseason lives on for at least one more game for several County squads following successful “play-in” games Thursday afternoon.
The preliminary round kicks off Friday with multiple games slated. The following Thursday games were reported to the newspaper.
Maine School of Science and Mathematics 4, Jonesport-Beals 0 — At Limestone, the No. 15 seed Penguins shut out visiting No. 18 Jonesport-Beals thanks to solid team play. All four of the Penguins goals came in the first half.
Liam Hollis put MSSM up 1-0 nine minutes into the game on a well-placed goal. Raymond Dulac followed suit on a header from a corner kick with 20:34 to play in the first half. Connor Start made it 3-0 in favor of the home team with 11:01 remaining and Hollis struck again with 1:48 to play in the half.
Bao Bao Nguyen and Griffin Duigan each had one assist for MSSM.
MSSM’s Keeper Raymond Li had the shutout with 10 saves, while Joneport’s keeper Josh Warnack had 13 saves.
MSSM (3-4-2) travels to Lee Academy Friday afternoon for a 3 p.m. preliminary playoff against the No. 2 Pandas. (14-0)
Katahdin 10, East Grand 0 — At Stacyville Thursday, the host Cougars scored early and often against visiting No. 20 East Grand.
Kyle McNally led the way with two goals and an assist for Katahdin. Grady Ritchie and Kalan Mann also had two goals each, while Wyatt Smith, Calvin Richardson, Bradley Swallow, and Justin Hurlbert also picked up one goal apiece.
Cole Chickering, Bradley Swallow, Josh Martin, and Kaden Delano each had 1 assist.
Kalan Mann made 1 save in net and Jacob Hurlbert had two for the winners. Derek Golding made 23 saves for East Grand (0-13).
No. 13 Katahdin (7-5-3 overall) travels to St. Agatha Friday to face No. 4 Wisdom (12-2) in a preliminary round game.
Girls soccer
MSSM 2, Lee Academy 0 — At Limestone Thursday, the No. 15 Penguins of MSSM bested No. 18 Lee Academy in a play-in game. Mattie Luce and Rianna Mattox each scored a goal for MSSM.
Keeper Hadley Blodgett had 3 saves on 3 shots for the Penguins while Harmony Vermazani had seven saves on nine shots for the Pandas.
MSSM (3-6 overall) travels to Howland Friday to face No. 2 Penobscot Valley (12-1) at 2:30 p.m. Lee Academy ends its season with an 0-10 record.
