      100 Years Ago – Nov.  18, 1921

Opening new store Hallett McKeen Company has taken a lease on the store recently vacated by Norville Reid in Market Square and will operate a cash and carry store as a branch of their present establishment.

New Grange chaplain — Harry Crawford was honored by the National Grange at its annual convention in Madison, Wisconsin by being elected to the position of national chaplain.

75 Years Ago – Nov.  15, 1946

Convention — Phillip Churchill left Sunday for Boston where he will attend the New England Men’s Clothing and Furnishing Convention looking for items for his store.

Recreation — Director of Recreation Robert Hunter announced today that the winter recreation programs will include skating and ice hockey at the rink.

                                                        50 Years Ago – Nov.  18, 1971

Mailing of telephone books — New England Telephone’s 1972 directory will soon be mailed to the residents of Houlton. A full-colored photograph of Maine’s highest mountain, Mount Katahdin, will be featured on the cover of the new book.

Rotary The Houlton Rotary Club will launch its 16th annual radio auction Monday night, and the chief beneficiaries will be the Dollars For Scholars Foundation, the Oscar French Scholarship at Ricker College and a community beautification project.

Visiting nurses The VNA of Aroostook joins thousands of non-profit home care agencies across the nation observing November as National Home Care Month, the theme of which is, “The Miracle of Home Care Uniting Caring and Technology.”

Appreciation plaque Muriel and Martin Thibodeau recently honored Lois Downing with a plaque at a social gathering for residents and guests of Ricker Plaza. The plaque was given for Lois’ work as the author of Ricker Rumblings.
