HOULTON, Maine — The following activities will be held at the Houlton Recreation Department during the upcoming school holiday break. Registration is required for most activities as well as participants must wear a mask at all events.
Before the school vacation break, the Rec Staff is offering a new event, Holiday Hang Out, on Saturday, Dec. 18, from noon to 1:30 p.m. This fun holiday program will include games, crafts and a snack. Children in grades Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5 are invited to sign up. There is a limit of 30 children. The cost for the program is $5 per child. Registration is required. To register, call the Houlton Rec Department at 207-532-1310 by Dec. 17.
Also, the Houlton Recreation Department will be offering the following programs and activities during the school vacation break:
LEGO Mornings — This free program is cosponsored by the Cary Library. Children 6 to 12 years of age are invited to sign up. The program will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings Dec. 28 and Dec. 30 from 9-10:30 a.m. Each day will be limited to 24 children. Registration is required. The registration deadline is Dec. 22.
Vacation Fun Program — This program will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 29 from 9-11 a.m. Grades Pre-K through 5 are invited to participate. The morning will include games, contests and crafts. A snack will be provided. The cost is $5 per child per morning. Each program is limited to 24 children. Registration is required and the deadline is Dec. 22.
Open Gym/Game Room Hours during December vacation break will be as follows: Monday, Dec. 27, through Friday, Dec. 31, the gym and game room will be open from 1-3 p.m. Youth in grades 2-12 are invited to come shoot around, play pool, ping pong and more. Anyone in Grades 1 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is needed as this is a drop in activity. The Rec will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1 for the holidays.
The John A. Millar Civic Center will be open for public skating on the following days during the school break: Thursday, Dec. 23, noon-2 p.m.; closed Dec. 24-25; Sunday, Dec. 26, 10 a.m. to noon; Monday, Dec. 27, noon-2PM, Tuesday, Dec. 28, noon-2 p.m.; Wednesday, Dec.29, noon-2 p.m. and Adult Skate 7:30-8:30 p.m.; and Thursday, Dec. 30, noon-2 p.m.
Also, Friday, Dec. 31, public skate, 6-8 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 1, Stick Time Bantam and Under runs from 12:30-1:30 p.m.; Public Skate 2-4 p.m.; and Sunday, Jan. 2, public skate 2-4 p.m.
Admission for skating is $4 for youth and $5 for adults. Skate rentals are available for $2. For more information, contact the Millar Civic Center at 207-532-1313.
The William Weber Memorial Alumni Game will also be held Sunday, Dec. 26 from 1-3 p.m.
