Second-half surge carries Hodgdon girls past Fort Fairfield

HODGDON, Maine — A second-half surge lifted the Hodgdon girls basketball team to a commanding 75-17 victory over Fort Fairfield Tuesday, Jan. 4.

The Hawks, 8-0 in Class C North, will have their toughest test to date at 6 p.m. Friday when Southern Aroostook (7-0 in Class D North) journeys to the Hawk’s Nest for a battle of unbeaten squads.

In Tuesday night’s contest with visiting Fort Fairfield, Hodgdon limited the visiting Tigers to just six points in the second half, while pouring in 40 of their own for the lopsided win.

Nearly every player on the Hodgdon roster was involved in the scoring action, with freshman Anna Oliver leading the way with 20 points – 15 of which came in the first half of play. Junior Marissa Dow tossed in 17 points, including five from beyond the 3-point arc. 

Other Hawks getting into the scoring action were: Sadie Thompson, 14 points; Aleyah Matheson, both seven; Monique Polchies, five; Paige Fitzpatrick and Vickie Porter, both four; and Meghan Peters and Kaelyn Lawlor, each with two. 

Fort Fairfield (2-3 in Class C North) was missing six players from Tuesday night’s contest. Kassidy Gorneault led the Tigers in scoring with 11 points, while Eva Callioras, Brianna Osterblom and Cady Stairs each had two.

Hodgdon led 19-7, 35-11 and 59-15 at the quarter breaks.
