Houlton Recreation Department offers April activities

HOULTON, Maine – The Houlton Recreation Department has announced that the following activities will be offered to residents during April. All activities will be held at the Houlton Recreation Center. 

Registrations are required for most activities. To register, call the rec department at 207-532-1310. 

Red Cross Babysitters Course: On Saturday, April 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., youth between the ages of 11-15 years can be certified in this Red Cross Course. The cost for this course is $50 and the class is limited to the first 12 students to register.  (Minimum of six to hold the class) Participants must bring their own lunch and drink this day. This class is an opportunity to get the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to take care of infants and children. To register, call the Rec by April 5.

“Conjuring Carroll” Magic Show: This program will be offered Saturday, April 9, at 10:30 a.m. and is open to toddlers and up. The first 100 children to attend this free show will receive an Easter Goody Bag.  No registration is needed for this fun, family show. 

Vacation Fun Program: This program is for children in Grades PreK-5 and will be held on Tuesday-Thursday, April 19-21, from 9-11 a.m. Each morning will be filled with games, contests, and crafts. A snack will be provided. The cost is $5 per child, per day. Registration is required with a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 24 children per day. To register, call the Rec by April 13.

Chewonki Traveling Natural History Program: On Friday, April 22, at 1 p.m. the Chewonki Traveling Natural History Program will provide live, interactive experiences for children and adults with their Bugmobile. Come see if a bug is an insect, or if a spider is a bug and more. This program is free to all that attend and is limited to 30 registrants. To register, call the Rec by April 13. 

April Vacation Gym/Game room schedule: The schedule for open gym and game room will be Saturday, April 16; Tuesday-Thursday, April 19-21; and Saturday, April 23, from 1-3 p.m. The facility has a gym, pool tables, ping pong tables, bubble hockey, air hockey, foosball, and many board games. Youth must be in grades 2-12 to attend these open times.  If younger, must be accompanied by an adult.  No registration needed to attend these drop-in hours.
