Longtime Houlton code enforcement officer steps down

HOULTON, Maine — The town of Houlton is without a code enforcement officer, following the resignation of Kevin Tingley.

But just because the town is short a code officer, that doesn’t mean it is unable to file paperwork and issue citations if needed during the beginning of construction season.

Houlton Town Manager Marian Anderson said Wednesday that she would handle all of the administrative duties of the code enforcement office in the interim, while on-sight inspections will be done on a contract basis.

“We will do our best to turn permits around as quickly as possible,” Anderson said. “We also want to fill this position as quickly as possible and already have some good candidates interested.”

A 35-year municipal employee, Tingley began as Houlton’s code enforcement officer in October 2007. Prior to that, he was a member of the town’s Public Works Department in 1987.

Tingley resigned from the post May 4, but will remain a municipal employee. He took a position with Houlton’s Parks and Recreation Department where he will focus on buildings and grounds maintenance.

“We will certainly miss Kevin here at the town office,” Anderson said. “Kevin did a lot of little things for us and was always so gracious. I am happy he will continue to be a town employee, knowing he is only a phone call away if we need him.”
