Washburn District High School names top students for class of 2022

WASHBURN, Maine – Washburn District High School Principal and Superintendent Larry Worcester has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2022. This year’s valedictorian is Kevin Nader, while Hannah White is salutatorian; Layla Harris is first honor essayist; and Trinity Bartlett is second honor essayist.

Nader is the son of Nabil and Gilda Nader. He has been involved in various extracurricular clubs and programs such as the after-school woodworking club, National Honor Society, Varsity Club, and the WDES Summer Program all while achieving highest honors.  

Besides his academic success, Nader has also participated in a number of athletic programs including baseball, softball, soccer, and volleyball. He has been a regular volunteer for the Elementary School’s Summer Program and recently spent time volunteering at the Can-Am Dog Sled race held in Portage. 

In April, Nader was the recipient of the prestigious MPA Principal’s Award. This fall, he plans to attend Iowa State University for electrical engineering.  

White is the daughter of Matthew and Amy White. She has been involved in several activities during her high school career including being a member of the National Honor Society, the Future Farmers of America where she served as the reporter her junior year, and manager for the girls’ soccer and basketball teams.

She also found time to be a part of the yearbook publication. Always looking to pursue challenging goals, White took advantage of the Early College Program and began taking college classes when she was just a sophomore.  

As a junior, White was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa Award for Academic Excellence in and beyond the classroom. She plans to attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle to pursue a degree in social work. 

Harris is the daughter of Owen and Julia Harris. She has been an active member of extracurricular activities throughout her four years. She has been a member of the varsity soccer team as well as softball, and volleyball. She has been a member of the student government the Future Farmers of America and the National Honor Society.  

Harris has also spent many hours volunteering and serving in her community. She was recently recognized for serving over 110 hours over the course of her four years. In addition to her service and extracurriculars, Harris has achieved the highest honors throughout her high school career.  She plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono to pursue a degree in animal and veterinary science.

Bartlett is the daughter of Robert and Jennifer Bartlett.  She is an avid artist and has been a part of the Gifted and Talented Fine Arts program.  Bartlett has been enrolled in Presque Isle Tech Center’s Animal Science and Natural Resources programs where she has also been a member of their Future Farmers of America.  She has consistently been on the honor roll and recognized for Highest Achievement Honor Roll.  Upon graduation, Bartlett plans to continue working at Northern Light Health.
