PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Continuing its support of the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s athletics activities, University Credit Union has renewed its athletic sponsorship agreement with UMPI’s Athletics Program. The three-year agreement provides UMPI athletics with $10,500 in additional funding for venue improvements, equipment upgrades, and other activities not included in the program’s regular operating budget.

This is the second such sponsorship agreement UCU has made with UMPI Athletics since the credit union established its UMPI campus branch in 2010.

“We are so pleased to have received UCU’s ongoing sponsorship and commitment for UMPI Athletics,” Dr. Deborah Roark, UMPI executive director of University Advancement and External Affairs, said. “They have been a major supporter of the University and our priority projects for several decades. This collaboration extends into our classrooms as well, as their team assists us in reaching our goals of providing financial literacy education to our students. UCU’s steadfast support of our entire community, and, more especially, college students, is exceptional and we are delighted to have them as our partner.”

This sponsorship will support the needs of UMPI’s NCAA Division III athletic teams as they are identified and prioritized over the next few years.

Past support from UCU allowed for the installation of an LED scoreboard, campus entryway signage, and way-finding signage, as well as alumni relations activities and construction of the Zillman Family Greenhouse. UCU officials have also worked with UMPI’s Student Financial Services officers and faculty on a regular basis, helping to provide financial literacy educational opportunities to UMPI students.

“We enjoy being an impactful part of the campus community, and this sponsorship with athletics is another great way to impact not only student-athletes, but the greater Presque Isle area,” Renee Ouellette, president and CEO of UCU, said.

“At UMPI we try to provide the best experience possible for our dedicated student athletes,” Dan Kane, executive director of Athletics and Recreation, said. “The University Credit Union plays a vital role in that experience, helping us to enhance our facilities and equipment in ways that best support our student athletes and their efforts.”
