From the Bunkers – Week of July 20, 2022

NEW LIMERICK, Maine – The weather has been great the past few weeks. The course is looking great, thanks to Kevin Tuttle and his crew.  If you have not been out to play nine or 18 holes lately, you do not know what you are missing.

On Sunday we held our first Golf For Life Scramble. This was a very fun tournament with many familiar and new (hopefully becoming familiar soon) faces. The fun nine hole scramble paired up members with Golf For Life participants. After the scramble a social was held at the clubhouse with delicious food catered by the Lakeside.

The next two tournaments are Mid-Summer Dream Four-Person Scramble July 23 and Annual County Open 18-Hole Charity Tournament Aug. 13. Make sure to sign up today with the clubhouse by calling 207-532-2662.

In our commitment to try to recognize all of the many volunteers at HCGC, our list brings us to Dave Grant.  For many years Grant has run the Golf For Life Program and the Junior Golf Program.  Golf For Life is for adult beginners and Junior Golf accommodates kids from 6-18 years of age.  Grant has put in countless hours of volunteer time dedicating himself to helping kids pick-up the game of golf.  He is a great instructor, loves the game, but most of all enjoys the people he’s met in his work over all of these years.  In all of the hundreds (or maybe more!) people who have learned under Grant, we’ve yet to hear anything but positive comments.  In his usual selfless fashion, Grant wanted to make sure we mentioned all of the people who have helped him out with Junior golf this year:  Collin Irish, Abbie Fitzpatrick, Joley Stone, Patrick Marino, Alyssa Nightingale, Roger and Z Kappet, and Hollie McPartland. Thanks for your team’s work.

Houlton Community Golf Course is located on 6 Country Club Drive in New Limerick. For more information on the course call 532-2662, email houltongolf@gmail.com or visit their website www.houltongolf.com.
