AUGUSTA, Maine – On Aug. 2 Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash appointed Caribou Chief of Police Michael Gahagan to the Right to Know Advisory Council as a representative of law enforcement interests.
The committee is tasked with ensuring that Maine’s Freedom of Access laws are upheld, including making recommendations to the Legislature on potential accountability and transparency legislation.
“Chief Gahagan is really an upstanding public servant who has served in law enforcement for nearly 50 years. His leadership at the Caribou Police Department is a testament to his deep knowledge of what it means to work to make his community better and to keep government accountable,” said Jackson. “The Right to Know Advisory Committee makes critical recommendations that uphold transparency in government and I know that Chief Gahagan has the experience to really contribute to the committee’s duties.”
Gahagan will begin serving immediately. The committee’s next meeting will be Sep. 15 at 10 a.m.
