Northern Business Product captures 2022 Coed Softball crown

CARIBOU, Maine – The Northern Business Product coed softball team earned the 2022 Coed Softball Championship beating Columbia Forest Product 14-3 on Monday, Aug. 15 to claim the title.

Northern Business Product also was undefeated during the season finishing with a perfect 12-0 regular record.

The 2022 season consisted of nine teams with games played in Presque Isle and Caribou primarily and a couple were played in New Sweden. The final season standings were: NBP, 12-0; Swedes, 11-1; CFP, 8-4; Get Rec’d, 5-7; MMG Insurance, 5-7; Aroostook Band of MicMacs, 4-8; Trombleys, 4-8; McCains, 4-8; and Huber, 1-11.

In the championship game, CFP jumped on the board first with Ron Doughty hitting a solo home run over the left field fence.

NBP came right back in the bottom of the first inning when Vic Clark hit a double and Jordan Hanson followed with a single to score her.  Chad Lavway hit a double to score Hanson to make it 2-1 after the first inning.

In the third inning, Jarrett Olson hit a double to lead off the inning. Scott Olson hit a triple but then scored on an error to go up 4-1.  

Later in the fourth, Melissa Cantafio and Jesse Beaulieu both singled and Ethan Doody knocked them in by hitting a double.  J. Olson then singled to allow Doody to also score.  Clark and Scott Olson also singled, pushing J. Olson home to make it 8-1.

CFP tried to rally in the top of the sixth inning scoring two runs as Drew and Ron Doughty both touched the plate, but NBP scored five more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make the final score 14-3.
