HOULTON, Maine – With school now back in session, the Houlton Lodge of Elks 835 has stepped up to donate supplies to two local schools.

The Houlton Lodge of Elks 835 recently donated more than $2,000 worth of school supplies to both Hodgdon Mill Pond School and RSU 50 (Southern Aroostook Elementary School).

This project was made possible by receiving the 2023 Beacon Grant from the Elks National Foundation Community Investments Program in the amount of $4,000 and generous donations from Houlton Lodge members.

The Beacon Grant, which is used for Lodges to have an active project that will meet pressing needs with the community, the project of the Houlton Lodges back to school project is to support local educator in their efforts with our community students and hope to make the access to classroom supplies a more equitable part of everyone’s school experience.
