County runners hold their own against central Maine squads

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Aroostook County cross country runners were challenged by squads from central Maine Sept. 9 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

Hosted by Presque Isle, the race featured runners from Caribou, Houlton/Greater Houlton Christian Academy, Fort Kent and Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics facing off against runners from John Bapst, Ellsworth, Old Town and Hermon.

The John Bapst boys and Houlton/GHCA girls were the big winners on the day as each collected team titles. John Bapst’s Ethan Roach (17 minutes, 46.50 seconds) and Houlton/GHCA’s Teagan Ewings (20:23.87) were also the top finishers in the boys and girls races respectively.

The boys team scores were: 1, John Bapst, 30; 2, Ellsworth, 69; 3, Old Town, 77; 4, Caribou, 89; 5, Limestone/MSSM, 124; 6, Houlton/GHCA, 129; and 7, Hermon, 165.

Local results from the junior varsity girls race were: 1, Amelia Drake, Houlton/GHCA, 29:04.40; 4, Charlotte Hanscom, Houlton/GHCA, 32:16.50; 5, Danlen Espenscheid, Houlton/GHCA, 32:28.50; and 6, Stephanie Tuttle, Houlton/GHCA, 33:13.40.
