Two County youths advance to New England region Elks soccer shoot

BANGOR, Maine — A Castle Hill girl and Houlton boy have advanced to the Elks Soccer Shoot regional championships after winning the state competition held in Bangor Sunday, Oct. 16.

Lucy Cheney, representing Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954, of Castle Hill took home the title in the under-14 girls’ division, while Drake Lynds, representing Houlton Elks Lodge 835, of Houlton placed first in the boys under 10 division.

Sadie Trams of Ashland came in second in the girls’ under 12-year-old category. Raiden Cochran of Easton in the boys 14 and under division and Maryn Dyer of Monticello, in the girls under 10 division, placed second in their respective age groups.

The youths had advanced to the state event following their victories at the local lodge competitions and at the districts held Oct. 9 in Bangor.

Cheney and Lynds will next compete in the Area I Elks Regional Soccer Shoot, which includes competitors from all six New England states along with New York. That event will be held Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Augusta Tennis Club, 24 Leighton St. in Augusta.
