PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The leaders of the Aroostook Band of Mi’kmaqs recently voted to become a Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce community member.
The Mi’kmaq Nation became the 23rd community to be served by the chamber within the central Aroostook area.
“It is an honor to begin working with Chief Peter Paul and his staff as a community like all the others,” stated LaNiece Sirois, chamber executive director. “Partnerships and media ideas are already flowing.”
Sirois, along with chamber board president Mary Kate Barbosa, met with the tribal council to celebrate the occasion.
The nation has always wanted to be recognized as a community like any other, Chief Edward Peter Paul said.
“We invite people to share in our services as we contribute throughout our neighboring communities,” he said. “We bring value to each other. This is a great step in the right direction.”
